SEO, Google Rankings, Keywords - Oh My! - Part 2 of 4

Welcome back to 'Part 2 of 4' in the blog series where we examine the factors that Google takes into consideration when ranking the relevance of your website.
This week, we will be looking at ' Off- Page' Factors .
When ranking your webpage, Google looks at several relevancy factors outside of your actual website. Such as:
- The Linking of Domains . The number of domains linking to your webpage is one of the most crucial ranking factors.
- The Linking of Pages . There may be some links from a particular domain to your website. The rating factor of the linked pages becomes a ranking factor taken into consideration relating to your page too. It is much more beneficial from a relevance perspective, to have links from several individual domains rather than from just one domain.
- The Relevancy of the Link. Links from other webpages related to your webpage's topic carry more relevance for search engines.
- The Authority of Linking domain . The Authority of a domain is considered a ranking factor too. For that reason, a link from low authority page to a high authority site will be worth more than from a lower domain authority one.
- The Links from a Homepage . Links from a home page of a linking domain carry much more strength than those on one of its pages.
- The Domain Authority of Linking page . Links from your webpage to other pages with higher domain authority will be a more significant factor than those on low authority domains. You should always strive to build links from high domain authority websites.
- The Do-follow vs No-follow links . Google officially stated that they don't count no-follow links (i.e., a link with 'rel=nofollow' attribute attached). The number of your do follow links can affect your rankings too.
- The Diversity of Link types . Too many links of one kind may raise a flag as a spam indicator which can negatively impact your rankings.
- The Contextual Links. Links within the content of the webpage are worth far more than links used in a sidebar only.
- The Link Anchors . These can be indication of web spam, which ultimately can negatively impact your rankings.
To summarize the 'Off- Page' Factors, often webpages linking to and from your webpage have a either a negative or positive bearing on your overall Google ranking.
In our next blog post, we will explore the impact 'Site Factors' have on your search visibility.
